It’s worth reviewing Vision, Mission and Values (VMV). Building explicit VMV for your organization or for your person is the cornerstone for measuring progress and achievement, or lack thereof.

Here are some working definitions:

Vision – The ideal future state.

Mission – The roadmap for how to get from where you are to your ideal future state.

Values – The guidelines that you adhere to when executing your mission in working toward your vision.

Crisp, clear, succinct descriptions of your VMV give you the foundation for communicating what direction you are going, how you plan to get there and what the boundaries are that you will not cross.

How your actions reflect and mirror what you’ve put in writing will help build trust by giving outward behaviors of trustworthiness.

So, pull out the vision, mission and values from your organization, review them, and see how closely aligned you and your organization are.  Lip service or commitment – or somewhere in between?
